Gustave de Staël was born in 1954 in Paris.

After two years of architecture school, he began painting and collaborated on collector books. He directed the Association pour la Promotion des Arts at l’Hôtel de Ville de Paris (Association for the Promotion of Arts in the City Hall of Paris) where he curated exhibitions and concerts for fourteen years. In 2005 he became director of the Instituts français du nord du Maroc (French Institutes in northern Morocco). At the end of this mission he decided to share his time between Paris and Tangier and devote himself to painting. He works alternatively in outdoor watercolours, engraving and and painting.

His latest works are black and white drawings in pen and ink, allowing for direct expression.

He has exhibited mainly in France and Morocco. His works are in private collections in France, Belgium, Norway, Tunisia, Jordan, the USA, and Morocco.
