ÉRIK DESMAZIÈRES'S NEW PRINTS AT DOCUMENTS 15

Now that he is not director of Musée Marmottan Monet anymore, French Academician Erik Desmazières can spend all his time drawing and etching. For our greatest joy! This new exhibition at Documents 15, a gallery run by Mireille Romand, shows some of his prints for Château Lafite, the birth of a cello, decors and new gouaches on lithograph, which are stupendous. It is accompanied by a book of 135 of his drawings published by Les Cahiers dessinés with a text by Olivier Rolin. Until July 25, 15 rue de l’Echaudé.

Whether they are colored with gouache or not, his prints are all magical and some of his series of etchings for Lafite were used for the label of the famous wine. Erik Desmazières is a major figure of prints and engraving in France and has inspired a large group of artists and followers. He also initiated the category at Académie des Beaux Arts. I particularly liked the use of yellow gouache on lithograph that he applied on two of his works here, “The Unmade Bed” and “Samuel asleep”. It’s fun to compare the black and white version to the color.

You can also acquire the “Birth of a cello” or “Georges Leblanc’s  Studio” for 3 000 and 950 €. This gallery opens at 1 pm from Tuesday to Saturday and it is a dream place where the greatest etchings are available for modest prices. 15 rue de l’Echaudé.
