Ariane Fruit studied and practiced design extensively before choosing to focus on photography. She received her diploma in photography in 2000 from the École des Gobelins in Paris, in the years of transition between film and digital photography.
A few years later, she discovered engraving. Her experiments with numerous techniques in printmaking opened doors to possibilities, permitting her to create hybrid images captured through specific procedures. By combining traditional techniques with digital technology, and giving a monumental dimension to traditionally small engravings, she seeks to place them within the context of current issues.
Ariane Fruit has received several engraving prizes in France, Germany, and Canada. She lives and works in Paris.
