EDITH DUFAUX IS AT DOCUMENTS 15 AND PHOTO DAYS IS ALL OVER PARIS !

This week is devoted to photography in Paris with the 28th edition of  “Paris Photo” starting on Thursday at Grand Palais. It is a fair I never miss because I have discovered so many photographers there, especially Americans like Mary Ellen Bartley, Karen Knorr or Loïs Conner. But there are many different venues to discover the scene, starting with Documents 15, one of my favorite galleries near rue de Seine where Edith Dufaux is showing her prints which look like engravings. Also the festival Photo Days, created by Emmanuelle de l’Ecotais, world expert of Man Ray and a former curator at Centre Pompidou and MaM Paris. With six exhibitions in original spaces, like “An Egyptian fable” by Sandra Guldemann Duchatellier at cinema le Louxor and l’Ecole des Arts Joaillers or the chapelle at la Salpêtrière, Photo Days brings the public to free events and guided tours around more than twenty museums and over thirty photo galleries until mid December.
Edith Dufaux creates little architectural models which she photographs. “Optical theatre” is the title of the show of fictional architecture where she builds mini walls and ladders and explores through lighting and creating various images.  Its’s hard to figure out at first that her images are not drawings such is the artistic quality. They sell for 500€ to 3000€ and are mostly black and white. The illusion and poetry they bring is riveting. (Tuesday to Saturday 12 pm to 7 pm, galerie Documents 15 until December 6).
