Maurice Maillard Français, 1946-2020

Maurice Maillard was born in 1946 and died in February 2020. 

 

He studied at the École des Beaux-arts de Rouen in the engraving studio of Jacques Ramondot, then at the École National des Beaux-Arts de Paris in the studio of Lucien Coutaud. 

 

Maurice Maillard has been showing work since 1969 in France and abroad (New York, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Russia, South Korea, Poland, Canada, Luxembourg, Japan, Mongolia). 

His works have been shown in over 200 exhibitions, including 70 solo shows, among them: 2018 Mokdam Art Museum de Gwangju (Corée du sud), 2012 Musée d’Evreux, 1989 Musée de Caen. 

 

The entirety of his engraved works was given to the photos and prints department of the  Bibliothèque Nationale of France. His paintings, prints, and drawings are included in numerous public and private collections:  museums in Caen, Evreux, Bayeux, Gravelines, Vannes, Okinawa (Japan), Gwangju (South Korea); art libraries, FRAC, and libraries. 

 

Maurice Maillard directed the Maison des arts d’Evereux for 13 years and had been a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres since 2002. His last exhibition was “Un certain ordre du monde,” at Galerie Documents 15 from November 29th, 2019, to January 11th, 2020. The gallery was deeply saddened to learn of his passing and continues to represent his work to this day.
